I Attempted To Lose Myself Again

We've reached a mid point both in this year's SOS Mix-Tapes and Summer herself. I'd normally take this time to reflect on the previous weeks; what I have or have not accomplished. Perhaps I might begin to let my mind wander to the days yet to come. All the possibilities of things I could be or do. But the truth is I'd much prefer to experience this moment for what it truly is. The here and now.

Re-Learn the Things That You Love

When I was a child I would stay outside playing from sun up to sun down. As an adult I spend most of my free time recuperating from work and other such nonsense. I went for a run the other day for the first time in a long time and it felt incredible. Remember when running wasn't a chore? Remember when it was freedom? I'd really like to get into that mindset again. Who's up for a game of freeze tag?

Holding Out For Abandon

One thing I miss about living back east is the Summer rain. There's something so refreshing about a sudden downpour on a hot day. That doesn't happen in my part of California too often. But the local weather predicts Summra-time showers tomorrow. I can't wait to dance in the hot Summer rain. This mix is perfect for just such an occasion. I suggest you push play and join me. Enjoy.

We'll Be Rocking 'Til The Sun Goes Down

I'm sorry this is coming out a couple of days past due. I had a couple turnaround shifts at work and quite frankly I haven't been able to type my own name let alone post anything for the past couple of days. But I took a quick nap after work today, played some Arkham Asylum and had a front row seat the my city's fireworks display right from my bedroom window and I'm feeling much better. Thank you for asking. So Summer is in full swing and it's time I send out my final SOS mix for the season. I am quite pleased with this set as a whole and definitely think that this final mix closes it out right. Happy and carefree, just like your Summer should be. load these playlists back to back in iTunes and they will play seamlessly back to back. It kind of makes my day. I hope you enjoy them as much as I enjoy putting them together, and don't worry, just because SOS is finished for the year doesn't mean I have abandoned Summer just yet. More Summratimes tunes are on the way, but for now please to enjoy as

Darling, Can We Take It Slow?

I have been working hard on new mixes, trying to stay ahead of the curve and whatnot, but in doing so I very nearly forgot to post this weeks SOS entry. That simply will not do. I apologize if this isn't quite as lengthy a post. I gots things to do. The 4th installment of Elements is a bit on the lighter side. If some of the other mixes are racing through the city, this is a stroll on the beach. Not a lull as much as a chance to recharge. After all, there's still one mix-tape left. Enjoy.

There Ain't A Cloud Around

I apologize for getting this out a little late in the day. I am just starting a new job (side note WOOT!) and my schedule is a bit unpredictable.

That said, I am actually in a really good mood as of late and it is surely reflected in this Mix-Tape. I love my job. I love my life. I have awesome friends. I am burning bright from deep down inside. I am Radioactive.

Feel It All Over Inside Like A Chemical

The weather's warm, the days are long and I've got a smile on my face. Summer is very nearly here. Let's keep this forward momentum going. SOS Elements #2 was actually the first of the mixes I had created for the set and it very well may be my favorite of the lot. It contains quite a few of the original tracks I had first set aside for Summer 2012 and at the keystone slot of #7, my anthem for this Summer (if not the year), Dragonette's "Let it Go."

While I design these mix-tapes as a whole to soundtrack my love of the season, no single track embodies that feeling so perfectly like "Let it Go." It's fresh and crisp. It's bright and warm. It's wildly fun. And perhaps most importantly it reminds me to stop trying to bear the weight of all of my problems. That's what I want to accomplish most this Summer. To be lighter. Brighter. More fun. This is definitely the mix-tape to soundtrack that process. So I urge you to load this on your iPod, head outside into the warmth of the Sun and transform yourself. Shake it off. Dance it out. Let it go. Burn brighter. Get Nuclear.

All About Chemistry

Summer is always a very special time for me. It triggers some sort of chemical reaction in my body and everything about it makes me happy. The heat. The vibrant, saturated colors. The bright Sun in the cloudless sky. The fact that it's daylight well past 8 pm. I love it. If my papery, white skin could handle it I would spend all of my time lying in the sun on a hot flat rock warming my cold blood. (I may or may not be 1. a reptile or 2. a Nordic vampire.) This year I've decided not to let my pasty disposition limit me as much and I'm daring to get out there and do more. Time to load up on the SPF. My absolutely favorite thing about the Summer, however, is the music. There are just certain songs that remind me of the season so much that I could only ever use them on a Summer mix-tape. It's part of the reason I like compiling the S.O.S. mixes so much. This is the music I want to (and pretty much do) listen to all year round. Come June and I'm jumping out of my skin to share my favorite warm weather tunes.

That doesn't mean I always have an easy time doing so. Sometimes I agonize over these mixes, so consumed with getting them just right. Making sure they exemplify the season, or coming up with a specific theme, titles and artwork. Choosing the right tracks and having the mixes flow well. It can be exhausting.

This year was the complete opposite of that.

I began working on S.O.S. 2012 months ahead of time and I have to say that after those initial brainstorming sessions, everything came together so unbelievably easily. So much so that I was concerned it would be utter crap. I am happy to report that after almost a solid month of previewing and a minor edit that is most certainly not the case. I'm sure I say this of most the mix-taped I produce but I'm actually quite proud of these. They are exactly what I want them to be. No song is misplaced. The artwork is gorgeous and so perfectly me. And the titles fit so very well and weren't forced or tortured at all. I really hope that you all like this installment of S.O.S. as much as I do. Please to enjoy.
