We've Got So Far To Go.

Perhaps I've procrastinated too much in releasing my second Spring Mix-Tape 'cause it's been in to Nineties for the better part of a week. Did I miss Spring all together and jump right into Summer? Meh. At least my allergies have gone away. At any rate you get new Spring-time tunes. Roll down the windows and breathe deep.

Can't Explain Why I'm Still Standing Here.

Sometimes I don't feel like an active participant in my own life. Too caught up in the past or fantasizing a future without actually moving forward. I need to be more present. Here's to the right now.

I Am Ready

I think the reason I'm so drawn to the Spring is the idea of change. The renewal that comes like a belated birthday gift. I'm due for a reset. I am ready.

Winter time is dragging along as it always does. Or at least as it always seems to me. Cold grey skies and cold grey thoughts. I'm trying my best to keep the pilot light lit.

Ready for the Disconnect

I've had this Mix-Tape completed since 7/29 and I'm not quite sure why I'm just getting around to posting it now.

Life and such I suppose.

There are some really great tracks here and more than a few solid bangers. Maybe it will help break up the monotony of seven day work weeks and reality television.

Get into it.

Whether I'm Ready Or Not

While the days are still all kinds of hot, at least the nights are starting to cool off a bit. I'm ready for the fall. We've got a new Mix-Tape to help get you in the mood for the coming change as well. Crisp, cool guitars, warm, soft synth, maybe even a steel drum (Summer's not over just yet) layered together just like the perfect Autumn outfit. I can't wait.

Caught Up In The Revel

I think I've created a total of seven new Mix-Tapes in the last month or so and this may just be my favorite. I had actually intended to release this one a little farther down the line but ultimately couldn't keep it to myself any longer. It was a lot of fun to create and I find myself coming straight back here to listen again and again. I am in love with these songs. Particularly the run from tracks 5 through 9. It's been my go to "getting ready" group. Find your new favorite song.

The Air Is Familiar

I miss the idea of Summer vacation. Like when you were in school. The idea that you get 2½ months that's all yours. Completely off limits to the normal day to day. I want that back. I'd like to think that I would use the time to travel somewhere exotic. The problem is that teleportation isn't a thing yet and I don't exactly travel "well." This Mix-Tape is kind of my own mini escape.

I was inspired by a video I watched about this tree-house community in Central America called Finca Bellavista. It is this wondrous community set atop the canopy in the Costa Rican rainforest consisting of several tree houses attached by bridges and ziplines. They have described it as "...Kind of like the Ewok village in Return of the Jedi." I'm so down.

I want to go to there. I think I need to start coming to terms with long trips because this is something I'd really like experience.

For now, I have this Mix-Tape. I hope it provides you some escape as well. Enjoy.

We'll Be Rocking 'Til The Sun Goes Down

I'm sorry this is coming out a couple of days past due. I had a couple turnaround shifts at work and quite frankly I haven't been able to type my own name let alone post anything for the past couple of days. But I took a quick nap after work today, played some Arkham Asylum and had a front row seat the my city's fireworks display right from my bedroom window and I'm feeling much better. Thank you for asking. So Summer is in full swing and it's time I send out my final SOS mix for the season. I am quite pleased with this set as a whole and definitely think that this final mix closes it out right. Happy and carefree, just like your Summer should be. load these playlists back to back in iTunes and they will play seamlessly back to back. It kind of makes my day. I hope you enjoy them as much as I enjoy putting them together, and don't worry, just because SOS is finished for the year doesn't mean I have abandoned Summer just yet. More Summratimes tunes are on the way, but for now please to enjoy as

Darling, Can We Take It Slow?

I have been working hard on new mixes, trying to stay ahead of the curve and whatnot, but in doing so I very nearly forgot to post this weeks SOS entry. That simply will not do. I apologize if this isn't quite as lengthy a post. I gots things to do. The 4th installment of Elements is a bit on the lighter side. If some of the other mixes are racing through the city, this is a stroll on the beach. Not a lull as much as a chance to recharge. After all, there's still one mix-tape left. Enjoy.

There Ain't A Cloud Around

I apologize for getting this out a little late in the day. I am just starting a new job (side note WOOT!) and my schedule is a bit unpredictable.

That said, I am actually in a really good mood as of late and it is surely reflected in this Mix-Tape. I love my job. I love my life. I have awesome friends. I am burning bright from deep down inside. I am Radioactive.

Feel It All Over Inside Like A Chemical

The weather's warm, the days are long and I've got a smile on my face. Summer is very nearly here. Let's keep this forward momentum going. SOS Elements #2 was actually the first of the mixes I had created for the set and it very well may be my favorite of the lot. It contains quite a few of the original tracks I had first set aside for Summer 2012 and at the keystone slot of #7, my anthem for this Summer (if not the year), Dragonette's "Let it Go."

While I design these mix-tapes as a whole to soundtrack my love of the season, no single track embodies that feeling so perfectly like "Let it Go." It's fresh and crisp. It's bright and warm. It's wildly fun. And perhaps most importantly it reminds me to stop trying to bear the weight of all of my problems. That's what I want to accomplish most this Summer. To be lighter. Brighter. More fun. This is definitely the mix-tape to soundtrack that process. So I urge you to load this on your iPod, head outside into the warmth of the Sun and transform yourself. Shake it off. Dance it out. Let it go. Burn brighter. Get Nuclear.

All About Chemistry

Summer is always a very special time for me. It triggers some sort of chemical reaction in my body and everything about it makes me happy. The heat. The vibrant, saturated colors. The bright Sun in the cloudless sky. The fact that it's daylight well past 8 pm. I love it. If my papery, white skin could handle it I would spend all of my time lying in the sun on a hot flat rock warming my cold blood. (I may or may not be 1. a reptile or 2. a Nordic vampire.) This year I've decided not to let my pasty disposition limit me as much and I'm daring to get out there and do more. Time to load up on the SPF. My absolutely favorite thing about the Summer, however, is the music. There are just certain songs that remind me of the season so much that I could only ever use them on a Summer mix-tape. It's part of the reason I like compiling the S.O.S. mixes so much. This is the music I want to (and pretty much do) listen to all year round. Come June and I'm jumping out of my skin to share my favorite warm weather tunes.

That doesn't mean I always have an easy time doing so. Sometimes I agonize over these mixes, so consumed with getting them just right. Making sure they exemplify the season, or coming up with a specific theme, titles and artwork. Choosing the right tracks and having the mixes flow well. It can be exhausting.

This year was the complete opposite of that.

I began working on S.O.S. 2012 months ahead of time and I have to say that after those initial brainstorming sessions, everything came together so unbelievably easily. So much so that I was concerned it would be utter crap. I am happy to report that after almost a solid month of previewing and a minor edit that is most certainly not the case. I'm sure I say this of most the mix-taped I produce but I'm actually quite proud of these. They are exactly what I want them to be. No song is misplaced. The artwork is gorgeous and so perfectly me. And the titles fit so very well and weren't forced or tortured at all. I really hope that you all like this installment of S.O.S. as much as I do. Please to enjoy.

Spring Forward

A couple days later than I had promised but perhaps even more appropriate considering daylight savings just cost me an hour out of my day. Spring forward my ass, I was all excited to see I had woken up at a reasonable hour (8:45am) on a Sunday only to find out that while I slept, I had time traveled into the future. Hateful! And yet again, yesterday was gorgeous amd sunny and today is overcast and meh. I had to make myself shower and get dressed (albeit at around 2 pm) just so that I didn't feel  act like a complete piece of crap all day. Playing this Mix-Tape certainly helped brighten my mood as the sun was being uncooperative.  Maybe it can do the same for you.  More over, this mix is a highly personal and much needed pep talk to myself. Note to self: "It's always darkest just before the dawn." With that I present you with my Spring Mix-Tape # 2. Enjoy.

The Limit Does Not Exist

This mix is mastered in such a way that if you place it in a playlist with Spring Mix-Tape # 1 : Infinites, it will play seamlessly from one to the other, as one continuous mix. Yay for my crazy!!!

HUGE  thank you to Miss Vida for the inspiration for the title. She kindly let me borrow it and I think it fits my purposes just perfectly.

I am currently working very hard on SOS 2012 but who knows, there may just be another few more mixes before then, I have a lot of great tunes that need to be heard.

Leaps and Bounds

Like so many times in the past nature is not cooperating with my Mix-Tape weather requests. Here it is, Leap Day and I'm all ready to use it as the spring board for change and instead it's dreary and miserable outside. To be fair it seems the first actual day of Spring around here isn't until March 20th but I'm impatient and would much prefer to see the Sun. Alas I cannot control everything so I suggest listening to this seated under a hot lamp for at least the time being. Then, when the elements are more agreeable, take it out for a nice long walk. At any rate, enjoy.

Melancholia

I am no fan of St. Valentine's day nor am I a fan of mushy, romantic music. (I think I write this every time I post about 2/14, but it remains true so... bite me.) It's been a while since I posted and I'm not quite ready to drop my Spring Mixtape(s) yet so I figured I would share a little heartbreak Valentine's EP. Just a few songs about lost love and what not. Some make me want to bathe with the toaster if I listen to them too much. All gorgeous. I tried to mix it up a bit so there aren't just sad bastard ballads abounding, but even the upbeat tracks are kind of down*. Enjoy!

* it's really not that bad I promise, I just haven't seen the sun in a few days and it's making me all "melancholy and the infinite sadness." stay tuned, sunshine and happy-time tracks are right around the corner.
